Jersey Devil

In 1735, a Pine Barrens resident known as Mother Leeds was pregnant with her 13th child. Unhappy with the news she was expecting again, she cursed the baby by proclaiming ‘let it be the devil’. Legend has it that when the child was born, he turned from a beautiful baby into a hideous, winged creature with a goat’s head. It’s believed that the Jersey Devil’s been haunting the Pine Barrens of Southern New Jersey ever since.
