We know the American Alligator has existed in Florida for the last 6-8 million years, and while visitors and newcomers might fear this apex predator, us Floridians affectionately refer to them as ‘swamp puppies’…

From the 1800’s to the later part of the last century, American Alligators were nearly hunted to extinction, giving them an unfortunate place on the endangered species list.  Thankfully, conservation efforts turned things around for Florida’s favorite reptile, and the population is thriving in the Southeastern United States.  

The American Alligator is the state reptile of Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi, where they can be found in lakes, rivers, bayous, and occasionally your swimming pool.
